Create public github.com/civilytics/uscogdata. Empty — the mirror workflow populates it.

Why a mirror at all

Not for binaries; r-universe provides those and can clone from any public git host. The mirror buys three things:

A free Windows/macOS/Linux R CMD check matrix. This package hard-depends on duckdb and httr2 — both compiled, both with real platform variance — and has never been tested on Windows or macOS. The Gitea runner is Linux-only. This is a correctness gain, not a marketing one.
One issue inbox on a platform nearly every R user already has an account for.
CDN clone traffic, keeping maxwell's residential uplink out of the critical path of adoption. A traffic spike is exactly when the install path should not fall over.

Public, no README/licence/gitignore (the mirror overwrites).
Description: Curated R reader for the Civilytics US Census of Governments finance corpus (FY1967–FY2024).
Topics: r, r-package, census-of-governments, government-finance, public-finance, duckdb — r-universe uses repo topics for search ranking.
